This is a shout out to my friend Starla Kay Mathis, the designer of my website. I’ve always had trouble starting a website ( no matter how seemingly easy. Drag and drop my ass!!) Anyway, like lots of things that I don’t really like to do, I kept putting off having a website built, until one day I came to the epiphany that I could just sub out the work. Que Starla coming in to save my butt yet again. If you were to ask Starla what she does, she would just call herself a blogger. I personally thinks she’s more like a website designer, photographer, natural hair influencer, connector, interior designer, mother, wife, makeup guru who happens to blog about what she does. Maybe you might need one of those one day so I decided to interview her for fun.
T: So Starla, what made you start blogging?
S: Ha Ha, I don’t really know, I guess I wanted to share my knowledge and life experience with everyone. I love being a mother and wife, plus I’m creative.
T: I do love your creativity, it comes out in everything you do. I notice that your aesthetic bleeds into your interior decoration of your home and office. ( looks at starlas spotless/organized/fashionable home) Where do you get your design ideas from? My house is always cluttered with my art supplies, my husbands tools, or the pets toys.
S: The key to my design choices is always minimal and functional. I always have a color palette in mind when I decorate, then I go online and try to recreate looks that I like. Pinterest is probably my favorite source.
T: Speaking of Pinterest, your photos on your website and Instagram always look great. But that is understandable because you are a photographer right?
S: Yes I am a photographer, but I mostly like taking pictures for social media and the website. And I love taking photos of my kids
T: What are your favorite types of blogs / social media feeds to follow?
S: My favorite type of blogs are Natural Hair, Mom, and Lifestyle bloggers.
T: And this question is just for me personally, how do you take the time to keep up with blogging and social media? I really struggle with finding something to say all the time.
S: The best advice I can give is to take 30 mins out of your day( every day ) to work on it. I usually spend the week planning out what I’m going to talk about, and then I actually make all of my posts on the weekends.
Isn’t she great? You can follow Starla on all the social medias.
